we get in
and the fruit
is hairy,
the bread
forgotten
from a week on the counter,
stale as comedy
and hard as rocks. I break it
to chunks
with a meat-knife
and take it
to the garden
in open tupperware,
wedge it
between the branches
of a hard
and winter
tree.
