Three Tanka – Karen O’Leary

on his knees,
the monk scrubs
out the confessional—
his penance
with prayer

the director
misses final curtain call—
missing reporters too
her husband on hand
to whisk her away

tracing the crack
in the blue china cup…
a family heirloom
her grandson heedless
of the no ball rule
